Rags to Stitches gift ideas
Looking for DIY gift ideas to brighten up someone’s day?
If yes, then you have come to the right place :)
The Element Eden girls at HQ put their creative minds to work and came up with a simple and super cute DIY gift idea perfect for any age.
Rags to stitches is an Element Eden upcyling program that uses excess materials from the garment making process and incorporates them back into new pieces. This process minimizes waste and makes each finished product a one-of-a-kind piece.
To start our DIY gift creation, we took a few left over material pieces from our `Live for the weekend’ summer collection. We recommend you to use a second hand piece of clothing and tear off the material.
The next step was to cut the left over materiel into 1 metre long, 5cm wide strips. Some strips were navy, white, pink, spotty, flowery and more happy live for the weekend colours.
Our summer collection is made up of beautiful fabrications and joyous colours to help celebrate what life is really about. Living each day to the fullest and living for the weekend.
Once we had a number of strips laid out, we chose three colours to mix and braid the material into a bracelet, necklace or headband. Now the fun really starts!
While holding the three pieces of materiel, first tie a knot at one end to secure the braid. Then second, start platting through each strip until it comes to an end. It is always helpful to have a friend involved to hold one end while you braid the other. Team work with a smile!
Once the braid is complete and you will see all the amazing fabrications mixed together. To finish the gift, tie a knot to secure and… Voila! You have now made your own stylish and ever so nature friendly bracelet, necklace or headband.
