In my Element with Andrea from Dos Ombre
An admiration of the original, the unique, and all that is different in our world inspires Andrea from Dos Ombre interiors and homewares.
Andrea creates luxurious settings and styles personal spaces into dream like rooms full of exciting and authentic pieces to adore. We caught up with her to gage an insight into her creative world.
Where are you now, can you tell us a little about your surroundings?
In my very messy office space inside The Borrowed Nursery - its a dream working co-space and so happy to be working inside an urban jungle - very Zen all day :)
Where do you draw your inspiration from to create such majestic table spreads like the one on our Element Eden summer photoshoot?
I wanted to create a table that I would love to sit at and enjoy with my friends. Being a massive lover of food and especially antipasto, for me the spread had to be decadent but not over the top and something you could sit at for hours - the crystals were a beautiful touch to bring out the rich foods and romantic setting.
How long have you being involved in styling and creating luxurious settings and personal spaces?
Around three years now, however I have a buying and merchandising background from years ago, so I have always enjoyed curating settings / spaces for whatever the medium may be. I am constantly redecorating and moving the house around, I enjoy changing and mixing things up at home too.
How did you first become interested in this type of creativity?
When I returned from a year abroad travelling the world, I started a bachelor of Multi media, and it then quickly became apparent to try and combine my love of design and travel into a career.
Where has your work taken you around the world?
I try to regularly go to Indonesia, but have recently been to India, Turkey, Thailand, Hong Kong and past trips to central and south America have been very helpful for sourcing. I look forward to many trips ahead and to work together with more amazing artisans from around the world.
What is your favourite colour and medium to work with?
I adore working with plants, crystals and am a big fan of neutral tones. Its nice when you can combine all your favourites in the one job, when things organically come together it often creates the best visual magic.
Is there anyone who inspires you?
I am very fortunate to have some amazingly talented and creative friends who constantly inspire me. I think its super important to surround yourself with like-minded and driven people to keep your own creative flare motivated.
What is so special about making a creation that is unique every time?
Happy clients and creating original, but beautiful content is super rewarding.
Why do you love what you do?
There is never a dull moment, its never mundane and very rewarding at the end of the day. Being able to branch into many avenues of design, products, styling, shoots and getting to collaborate with other creative people really makes work a dream doing something you really love.
When you are not working and creating, what do you like to do?
When Im not crazy busy - hanging beach side with family, friends and good food.
